Mental illness

Disability Care

Mental health encompasses a diverse range of conditions, some of which can be severe and impact daily life, while others may present with mild symptoms. This encompasses well-known conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or phobias, as well as lesser-known conditions like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, dissociative identity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, Tourette's Syndrome, or PTSD.

Each mental health condition presents unique symptoms, and there can be overlap between conditions, making diagnoses complex. Regardless of the specific illness, mental health challenges can affect various aspects of a person's life, both in visible and invisible ways.

Despite the significant impact of mental health conditions, there is still much unknown about their causes. Some may be triggered by life experiences or trauma, while others may be linked to other medical conditions. Some mental health conditions have a genetic component, with a higher likelihood of diagnosis for those with a family history of mental health issues. There are also mental health conditions without a known cause.

However, the science of mental health continues to advance, with treatment often involving a combination of medications and therapies aimed at helping individuals manage their symptoms and live fulfilling lives. With modern science and clinical medicine identifying biochemical targets, there is hope for further progress in treating mental health conditions.

What Does NDIS do for Mental Illness

If you have a long-term disability related to a mental health condition, also known as a psychosocial disability, it may be covered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Personalised Care can help you determine if you're eligible for funding to access our support services.

Many people in Australia, approximately 3 million, experience mild to moderate mental health issues and around 700,000 people have severe and persistent mental illnesses that require support. That's where Personalised Care comes in. We can support you in the assessment process to see if you qualify for NDIS benefits related to mental illness. If you or your loved one is eligible, we can guide you through the process and provide all the necessary support services.

To become an NDIS participant, you need to provide evidence of your mental health condition but a specific diagnosis is not required. NDIS support is based on how your condition affects your daily life, not just the diagnosis itself. Our team of mental illness specialists can help you understand your eligibility for NDIS support. At Personalised Care, we are committed to helping you live life to the fullest and we will always provide participant-centric, fostering belonging, and first class care.
